OTHER: Sainz cautious about Dakar chances

Sainz cautious about Dakar chances By Matt Beer Tuesday, December 28th 2010, 11:21 GMT Defending Dakar Rally winner Carlos Sainz says he will remain 'modest' in his approach to the 2011 event despite his 2010 success. The former World Rally champion has won his last four cross country rallies with Volkswagen, including his maiden Dakar triumph last year. The Dakar moved from its traditional African location to a new base in Argentina and South America in 2009, and Sainz regards the current stages as an equal challenge to the old route Related posts:

1966 impala (WIP)

This is a little project i started about 2 weeks ago. It is to mimic what todays standards are for a fast street car, or at least what they are to me. Ive made some progress, but not nearly as much as ive wanted to so far. Anyway here is the run down of what im hoping it will be, and ill add pics along the way as i get more done to it. It is to have a BBC, injected, single 91mm turbo, air to water intercooler, full interior, stock suspension, and 275 drag radials. Here is what ive done so far, let me know what you think.

wheels n tires ready

the cage and intercooler mounted up and wheel wells done

wheels n tires under car at ride height

my first set of headers ever and a motor plate

collectors, crossover pipe, and a radiator mounted

checking fitment and clearnece

 Turbo down pipe

and the intake manifold i designed for the car, which i should have by next week.

My New project is Revell 1967 Dodge Charger.
I built this kit as Factory Stock. Basicaly, I built this kit straight from box. I changed the wheels & tire to MODELHAUS one. Because I thought the wheel and tire in box is too large and Low profile. I rise front and rear suspension for sitting right stance. I narrowed front and rear track.

AMT 32 Ford Phaeton question

I am looking at doing a 29 Roadster on a 32 chassis.  I know the Revell 32 chassis are pretty sharp, but I wanted to keep this old school with the transverse rear spring.  How is the chassis and suspension on the AMT 32 Phaeton kit?  I know Tim Boyd did a 32 5 window on an AMT Phaeton chassis, but am not sure if that came from the 4 door drop top, or the sedan delivery version.

Sounds of 2010: Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale live in Brazil

Here in Top Speed, we have every intention of ringing in the new year with a bang. That pretty much means that for the next few days until 2011 rolls along, we intended to keep the noise and decibel level up a few notches with some eardrum-shattering, high-octane videos featuring some of our ? and yours too, we hope ? favorite exotics on the planet.

First up is a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale screaming along the streets of Brazil. While we understandably dig the whole video game-to-real life effects done at the start of the video, we?re more interested in the sound of that powerhouse engine piercing through its surroundings.

Watch the five-minute video until the end and you?re going to be treated to the joyous sound of the car heading inside a couple of tunnels with the shriek of the engine reverberating and bouncing along the tunnel?s walls.

Ramp up the volume, fellas. This Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale is certainly not for the weak of heart.

Maybach Cruiserio Coupe

German coachbuilder, Xenatec, gets its kicks from making short cars long, long cars short, and long cars even longer. This is evident in their many zany interpretations, including their transformations for the Audi R8 and the Porsche 911. But their craziest package is yet to come with the Maybach Cruiserio Coupe, developed by Daimler and Saudi-based Auto Kingdom. There will only be 100 units built at a price of $940,000.

"The new Cruiserio coupe demonstrates a vision for design and production which AutoKingdom shares with the two German companies. This vision is the result of intellectual cooperation. The new generation features an advanced and ultra-elegant design by the most experienced and skilled automobile engineers and specialists who have deep knowledge of the demands of owners of luxury cars and their vision for an ultra-luxurious car which surpasses all what they saw in the past and is set to beat what they could see in the future."

The Cruiserio Coupe is powered by a V12 engine with an output of 605 HP and a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, while top speed hits the 170 mph mark. Pretty amazing numbers considering we’re talking about a 5.7 meter luxury coupe.

UPDATE 12/29/2010: Well, it didn?t take long for the luxury ride to find its way into dealerships. We recently got word that the very first model of the Xenatec Maybach 57S Coupe is now being put up for sale by AutoKingdom, a luxury car dealer in Saudi Arabia for al ittle less than a million dollars. Incidentally, AutoKingdom is one of only two companies outside of Germany that has been given the rights to sell the limited-run vehicle with the other dealership being Russia?s ArmorTech Group.

DTM: Haug: Success comes from open spirit

Haug: Success comes from open spirit By Glenn Freeman Wednesday, December 29th 2010, 13:14 GMT Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug believes the manufacturer's dominance of the DTM this year was a result of the team not applying tactical orders among its leading cars. Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett and Bruno Spengler fought a season-long battle for the title, and all three Mercedes drivers went into the season finale in China with a shot at the title. Related posts:

New Team Order Rules Won?t Change Anything ? Webber

Mark Webber believes that the recent changes in the ruling on team orders, changing them from being banned to being allowed, will not change anything in the sport. The team orders ban had been in force for some time, but following Ferrari’s flagrant disregard for the rule at Hockenheim in 2010, speculation was to be [...]

Campaign launched to save Team Lotus

© Save Team Lotus
One side of the Lotus naming dispute has been put forward on a new and in-depth webpage called www.saveteamlotus.com. The basic background is that the Lotus Racing F1 team had its naming rights revoked for next season by Group Lotus and, in order to keep racing under the Lotus name, bought the Team Lotus brand off David Hunt, who had owned it since the original team?s last race in 1994. Group Lotus has now taken Lotus Racing to court to try and stop it using the historic name in Formula One next year. The issue has been a source of constant confusion for many fans and the new webpage offers a breakdown of David Hunt?s and Team Lotus? side of the argument.
