The way I feel at the moment, why stop? I do it because I enjoy it. And yesterday is gone. I don't care what happened yesterday. What else would I do? People retire to die. I don't get any individual pleasure because we don't win races or titles in this job. I'm like most business people. You look back at the end of the year and you see what you've achieved by working out how much money the company has made. That's it.

I picked this kit up on ebay along with my '70 GTO that I have posted in this forum as well. I thought I would try doing two "wip's" at the same time. As with the '70 GTO, this body was badly twisted as well but this nose piece was easier to intall than the '70 was. I have already painted this one in MCW factory colour "Lucerne Blue" and the model has already been foiled. Interior will be white. Thanks for looking.

Renault’s resident hot hatch, the Megane RS 250, has been the subject of numerous special edition models in the past. Now you can add one more. The French automaker has officially released details of the latest limited run Megane RS 250, the Monaco Grand Prix Limited Edition.

Each model comes with plenty of aesthetic upgrades, justifying its label as a true special edition model. The Pearlescent White paint finish strikingly complements the piano black trim on the car’s side mirrors, rear diffuser, and fog-lamp surrounds. The special edition model also features a panoramic roof, bi-xenon directional headlights, and a set of 19" alloy wheels with matching Brembro brakes and red calipers.

Team order rule needs a re-think

Formula One should look at abolishing the controversial ban on team orders after Ferrari escaped further punishment for their manipulation of the German Grand Prix result. That is the view of the Daily Telegraph?s Tom Cary, who is of the opinion that the team orders rule now needs to be seriously looked at because of its obvious shortcomings.
?Whether you are for or against team orders, if the FIA could not back up its own rules and nail a competitor in a blatant case such as this the rule really does need reviewing. Perhaps Ferrari?s thinly-veiled threat to take the matter to the civil courts if they were punished too harshly scared the governing body, who as much as admitted the flimsiness of its rule."
Paul Weaver, reporting for the Guardian in Monza, was in favour of the ruling which keeps alive Ferrari?s slim chances in an enthralling championship.
?The World Motor Sport Council was right not to ruin a compelling Formula One season by taking away the 25 points Alonso collected in Germany. That would have put him out of the five-man title race. But the council was widely expected to increase the fine and possibly deduct points from the team, as opposed to the individual. In the end, it could be argued that common sense prevailed. But the decision will dismay those who were upset by the way Ferrari handled the situation as much as anything else.?
The Daily Mail's Jonathan McEvoy expressed outrage at the FIA tearing up its own rule book by allowing Ferrari to escape unpunished.
"Although the race stewards fined them �65,000 for giving team orders in July, the FIA World Motor Sport Council, to whom the matter was referred, decided not to impose any further punishment. It leaves the sport's rulers open to derision. It was, after all, their rule they undermined. In a statement, the WMSC said the regulation banning team orders 'should be reviewed'."

              I finished this one almost a month ago and had some time to post it on here. This is the newest kit on this Chevrolet and I did it as a street- pro touring model.I wanted this one in the Ford color hot cinnamon color that is out on the ford flex my friend has one and the color is fantastic!!! .So I painted the body parts and some of the interior in this color as this color is a base coat clear coat I then cleared them and them wet sanded them out to a deep shine.I then barefoiled the body moldings I did like the front and rear bumpers that the kit had in it they are different then the bumpers that are in the first kit that came out so I used the one from the first kit on the Impala.Well here are the pics and thanks for looking too!!>Cool

BMW X5 by G Power


We’ve seen G Power’s Typhoon body kit on an earlier version of the BMW X5 M, but now the German tuning firm has dressed up the new BMW X5 with the same Typhoon body kit. This would be in addition to giving the SUV an engine upgrade courtesy of its SK III program.

As we’re all familiar with, G Power’s Typhoon body kit comes with plenty of aerodynamic enhancements that turns the X5 into a car that looks like it’s been given a massive makeover. Among the items included are a pair of enormous wing extensions on the front and rear end of the SUV, a new bumper that comes with massive air intakes and LED lights, a vented bonnet made from carbon fiber, custom side skirts, and a custom diffuser. On top of all that, G Power also gave the X5 with a set of 23" Silverstone Edition forged wheels wrapped in high performance Michelin tires.

Inside, G Power continued with the modifications, complete with exclusive accessories that include a sport steering wheel, a new speedometer and a number of interior elements that have made from aluminum.

As for the powertrain, the tuning company’s SK III engine upgrade program, together with an ASA T1-522 supercharger, took the new X5 xDrive48i’s 4.8-liter V8 engine and bumped up its output by 170 horsepower all the way up to 525 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 443 lb/ft of torque at 5,300 rpm. The end result allows the X5 to hit 0-62 mph in just 4.7 seconds with an increased top speed of 172 mph, a bump up from the electronically limited 155-mph top speed of the standard model.

Red Bull's wounds reopen as Alonso shines

At Silverstone

A week before the British Grand Prix, I sat down with Mark Webber to talk to him for his new column for this website.

Silverstone is a track he adores and always goes well on. So, expecting him to be more of a threat to Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel at Silverstone than he had been so far this season, I asked him if he would be allowed to race and beat the German if the circumstances arose.

He was momentarily taken aback. "Well, yeah, I hope so, yeah," he said. "I don't see any reason why we can't."

Given that Vettel headed into the race in complete control of the season having utterly dominated the championship so far, it is easy to see why Webber would be of that opinion.

As it turned out, though, his team principal Christian Horner was not.

With a great race winding to a thrilling climax, Horner watched Webber closing in on Vettel at about a second a lap as, ahead of them, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso cruised to a brilliant victory, his first of the season.

Horner would have known how desperate the Australian was for a strong result here, to start to try to make up for a disappointing start to the season compared to Vettel. But he decided that 33 points in the bank for the team was better than the potential of, as Horner put it, "two cars in the fence", and he tried to call Webber off.

And so a wound that has been festering for a couple of years was torn open again.

There is history here, as anyone who followed the titanic struggle between Vettel, Webber, Alonso and McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in last year's championship will know.

The issue of favouritism at Red Bull is a thorny subject with Webber, who last year at Silverstone had a front wing taken off his car and given to Vettel, whose own had failed.
Webber went on to win that race, and famously said over his radio on the slowing down lap: "Not bad for a number two driver."

The issue had been in the background long before that, and has been ever since, occasionally bubbling up to the surface, such as at the penultimate race of last season in Brazil, when Webber said it was "obvious" the team favoured Vettel.

Red Bull have always denied this, while reserving the right to call off fights when they feel the team is at risk - a policy hardened by the collision between their two drivers while disputing the lead at the Turkish Grand Prix last year.

Horner, well aware of the issues, admitted on Sunday afternoon that he could "understand" why Webber would be "frustrated".

He protested that the two drivers were allowed to race until that point, and that he felt the battle had gone "far enough".

And he insisted that the Australian was not being relegated to a de facto number two driver, and that he would still be allowed to race Vettel.

Let's be clear about this - Red Bull did nothing wrong.

Team orders are legal again in F1 this year, after governing body the FIA finally ended a farcical eight years when they pretended they could police whether teams were using them. And bosses are entitled to tell their drivers to hold station, or reverse positions, if they like.

But as an Italian colleague pointed out to Horner on Sunday, Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz made great play before last season's title-deciding race of the fact that his team would never use team orders to interfere with the championship battle, drawing a pointed comparison with Ferrari's demand to Felipe Massa to let Alonso win in Germany.

Horner's reply - "Mr Mateschitz wouldn't thank us for having both cars in the fence on the last lap, having got ourselves into a very good position" - did nothing to redress the obvious disconnect between Mateschitz's words and Red Bull's deeds.

On the face of it, many will feel that Horner over-reacted, given Vettel's massive advantage in the championship. But did he?

Alonso's victory on Sunday was as impressive as any by Vettel so far this season. The Ferrari driver took advantage of a pit-stop problem at Red Bull to take the lead, but once there his pace was, as Horner put it, "very strong".

Alonso clearly had the speed to compete with Vettel for victory at Silverstone, a particularly impressive feat given that this is a track where Red Bull have traditionally excelled and Ferrari have struggled.

On Sunday night, many put Ferrari's speed down to the row over off-throttle blowing of diffusers that has dominated this weekend.

This technology, in which Red Bull are said to lead the field, was banned for the British Grand Prix, and Horner felt this put his team at a disadvantage. Ferrari, by contrast, were believed by some to have benefited.

It would be wrong, though, to put all Ferrari's progress down to the change in the rules.
As Vettel pointed out: "There has been a bit of a trend over the last couple of races; they have been very strong on race days."

Alonso made full use of it on Sunday with a superb drive, to end a victory drought that goes back to last October's Korean Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was cautious about his title chances after the race, as well he might be given Vettel's 92-point advantage over him - nearly four clear wins.

But there is not a driver on the grid more formidable than the Spaniard with the scent of a possible victory in his nostrils.

Horner knows this full well - after Alonso's superb fight back last year, from 47 points off the championship lead following Silverstone, to leading it after that win in Korea.

Asked on Sunday how concerned he was about Ferrari's pace, Horner did not really answer the question. But if that is what was in his mind when he made the call to Webber, it is not that hard to see where he was coming from.

Looking forward to a rare break

There are some questions that you hardly ever hear when working in and around the Formula 1 circus and "are you having a holiday?" is certainly one of them.

Such is the constant nature of a season: the relentless march of race followed by race means the concept of a holiday tends to be alien to all F1 personnel from March to November.

However, that doesn't apply today. As I write this blog, I'm sitting waiting for the plane to fly us home, and the various F1 team members, still wearing their kit, are discussing what they will do to fill the gap between now and the next race, the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa at the end of August.

Well, I have my break already mapped out as I've a very important job to do. My awesome little brother Tom is getting married this month so I have Best Man duties to perform.

It can be so easy to get caught up in the F1 bubble and lose perspective of what is really important in life. Particularly this weekend, when at times it has seemed like the whole world revolves around the BBC and Formula 1.

It was certainly all we talked about among ourselves. Well, now that the race is over I can press the reset button and remind myself that family and occasions like 'Nipper's' wedding is actually the 'real world' and it helps put things into perspective.

Next weekend is the stag do but I can't write anything about it here in case he reads it. I'll need my speech written the weekend after, and then it's a family barbeque seven days after that.

When I got married, the speech went on for 40 minutes and I'm sure I'll be under strict instructions not to go on too much this time!

I'll also find space for a break, and apart from that it's time to recharge the batteries - and boy do I need it, especially after this weekend.

So, let's talk about the news about the UK TV rights which emerged over the weekend.

Having a broad understanding of television, the state the wider industry is in, and the challenges facing my own employer is essential for me. It helps me do my job better, understand how various decisions are taken, and plan for the future.

Against that backdrop I had a sense that there was a very real threat that F1 was going to be lost from the BBC for good after this year and I knew that various conversations were taking place at a much higher level than I am privy to.

I, like many of you, had seen the headlines over the past month and I suspected that we would get some news sooner rather than later. However, contrary to popular belief I didn't have the inside track on what was happening and on Thursday evening I went for dinner and then bed thinking it was set to be just like any other race weekend.

I then woke up at 7am as my phone was ringing - Ben Gallop the BBC F1 boss had flown to Budapest, was in the lobby of the hotel and had news on the TV deal.

The next few hours went by in something of a haze. There was some understandable sadness and confusion as the news sunk in that things were changing. I think my breakfast consisted of one mouthful of coffee.

I honestly believe there is only one way to do this job and it is to give 100% at all times. Since 2009 we have constantly looked to change, evolve and improve our coverage every week and I'm really proud of the job we've done.

Despite the jet lag, hours spent in airports and cramped journeys across the globe (the flip-side to the 'glamour' of F1!), every member of the production team on camera and behind the scenes feel so blessed and lucky to do this job - and our only aim has been to produce the best output for the audience. That has always been the mantra: keeping you guys and your entertainment at the centre of our decisions.

My highlights so far include: interviewing Max Mosley in 2009 as a breakaway threat loomed, when he ended up calling Flavio Briatore a "loony"; bringing you as close as possible to the sport when we were in the garage as Jenson Button won the world title; and our Bafta-winning show from Abu Dhabi last year, when we saw Sebastian Vettel crowned the youngest ever champion.

I can honestly say I have never worked with a more talented or dedicated team. From free practice early on a Friday to the F1 Forum that often finishes two hours after the race, we try to get you to the heart of the drama.

I love standing next to Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard in the paddock - and thank you for inviting us into your living rooms every weekend. I know how special it is to be in this position, and you have made it such a pleasure with your feedback and loyalty.

Now, please don't take the above as me saying those days are over! It's just inevitable that after the news of the weekend, and the messages of support we've received, I can't help but reflect on what we've done since March 2009 and how we've gone about doing it.

Trust me that we will be working even harder to make the end of this year a resounding success on the BBC and looking to be stronger, better and more professional than ever.

There's no disguising that from next year it will be different. I know it is frustrating for you to not yet know the finer detail - and as soon as we have it worked out, you will be the first to know.

From the presenting team to the races we cover live, to the transmission times of the highlights shows and how we make those a success too. You will again be central to how the BBC make those decisions.

And after 2011 please be assured of this: the BBC will endeavour to make the overall F1 offering as enthralling and compelling as possible. We never take our work for granted and we will be always be driven by that desire to produce the best shows for you, our audience.

I think the drama on the track, coupled with the kind of treatment the media as a whole has given it recently, has taken Formula 1 to new people and new heights. From 2012 onwards it won't be quite the same on the BBC - but the effort and passion invested in covering the sport certainly won't diminish.

I'm proud of what we continue to bring you - this weekend being yet another reminder of what this incredible sport can deliver, and I look forward to sharing more moments like Jenson's win after the summer break.

Heavy Metal Mach I Boss 302

Hi guys,

Remember me? [whstl]...Big Smile Man, i"ve been so busy lately that my output has been WAAAY down! But I'm still plugging away, and can finally show the first model to come off the desk since moving to North Carolina--my "Heavy Metal Mach I", an old MPC Boss 302 kit that I modified quite a bit in front.Some of you may remember that I started this kit back in March (?) or so, but I've been away on business, and did the "big move" to NC which really can futz up your modeling plans!

But anyway--I've always liked this color scheme. It just looks mean!

The kit, unfortunately, has its problems and challenges. First thing was the front--it's just grossly oversized, and not really correctly-shaped. Thank god for Dremel tools is all I can say! The ol' Dremel really helped bring it into spec. That,s and a good amount of diligent sanding! I took a lot off the top and bottom, and also hollowed out the underside, adding support ribs and reflectors. I also used a contour gauge to fashion a front spoiler from styrene.

The interior is really rather incorrect for a '71--it's more akin to a '73--but I didn't feel like monkeying around trying to find a 71 pair of door interiors, so I just built it as was. I made the matts from 600 grade wet-sandpaper. The flocking is embossing powder, painted black.

I also added side windows by adding the post from styrene, and the window from clear plastic cut from a blueberries container. Wonderful thin, clear styrene plastic, great for windows in those containers!

Here's the finished pics! I used Tamiya paints for the finish, ALCLAD metallizer for the bumpers and rims--which are from an old 71 GTX kit--and a combination of Keith Marks and Kit decals. I made the rear-view mirror, fashioned a more correct rear fuel cover, hollowed out the hood openings, ,and a guitar string antenna
