FOIL CHROME and WHY

Before you decide that you,ve heard enough about this stuff, check out BARRY FADDEN,S cars! Now,that you know where I am going with this ,here goes.I have been foiling cars and planes for years now.WHY ? Because the correct foiling makes a model POP ! Now ,look at BARRY,S cars.No ragged edges. No out of line trim. This indicates a very careful approach to something that can make or break a model,s looks ,in my opinion.

When I am prepping a car for foiling ,I do something that most have never heard of or,if they did it hasn,t been used. I take ALL the paint OFF the window frames and things like door handles etc.Side chrome can be done, but it,s better to mask it off carefully. This ensures a very smooth finish for the chrome to lay down on.No bumpies from orange-peel around the windows either.I have seen many in the pages that have this evident oversight.

True,we all have standards and all that.BUT,if you could raise the bar a little ,wouldn,t you be better pleased with the results?I don,t think this takes away the fun factor of building a model either. It makes it more beautiful and there-fore more satisfying to look upon by the builder and anyone else. True, good foiling is an acquired skill, like decaling(which I hate with a passion)and learned with patience.

Now take your next model and even if it doesn,t have a lot of chrome(a 1939 FORD standard coupe comes to mind) then the little bit done CAN significantly beautify the finished model. Try it you,ll like it.     OLDCARGUY
