The current Hyundai Genesis Coupewent on sale in United States dealerships back on February 26, 2009. It was a pretty cool sports car powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder that delivered 212 HP and 217 lb.-ft. of torque, but for 2011, Hyundai is trying to make it even better by adding a new version: the Coupe 3.8 R-Spec. This new coupe is powered by a 3.8 liter V6 engine that delivers 306 HP, which is obviously better than the previous model, but apparently, that addition simply wasn’t enough for Hyundai and 2012 will bring even more changes for the sports car.
Hyundai announced a while ago that the 2012 model would receive both exterior and interior updates, but the biggest changes will be made under the hood. Hyundai is preparing a new 5.0 liter V8 engine that will deliver 429 HP. With this new engine the future Hyundai Genesis Coupe will be a direct competitor for the Ford Mustang. The new version is expect to be revealed in mid-2011.
UPDATE 09/16/2011: Hyundai Blog has released an image they are claiming is the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This image reveals a new design language clearly taking inspiration from the recently launched Veloster. Great new design or copycat crap? Let us know in the comments section below!
