Need Ideas for a '65-'66 Corvette Roadster Build

Today I scored on eBay a "Corvette junkyard" that includes what looks to be a very savable original AMT '65 or '66 (not yet sure which) Corvetter roadster body. Only hitch is the winshield frame is gone. Yes, I know Modelhaus has replacements for that, but I'm thinking to go in a different direction.

I thought it might be fun to do a quick, easy, simple modeler's-block-breaking retro/nostalgia build on this body. I have most of the original racing and custom parts left over from an original AMT '66 Vette roadster (one of the first car models I built as a kid). Among these is a "tonneau cover" with built-in driver's head/shoulders/arms, intended for use as a slot car body. I also have the '66 Vette's cut-down, wraparound windshield.  So I was thinking it would be quick and easy to do a semi-slam model of a typical mid-'60s road racer. It would probably have open steel wheels, or maybe American Torq-Thrusts or similar. Got any ideas for a good color on such a thing, or even photos of a real one that would be easy/fun/cool to model? If I go a step beyond slam and want to go ahead and put an engine in it, what would be appropriate? I have plenty of both Chevy small and big blocks, but what induction--FI or carbs on the SB, one four or tripower on the BB, or maybe Webers on either?

Another idea gnawing at me is to go the custom route with it. I'm thinking of something like a 1966 version of the Callaway Speedster Corvette. What if someone had been building something like that in '66? If I go that way, I'll definitely paint it in that great Callaway Pearl Jade Green color just to make the connection.

Either way I go, I will be trying to use as many original vintage AMT Vette kit parts as I can, and in no case will I be using any kit parts later than maybe '67 or '68. (In other words, NO modern wheels/tires, engines, seats, etc.) I might have to fudge a little on the tires because good wide model tires hadn't yet appeared by '66 and I don't want to be limited to AMT Firestone Supremes.

Any ideas or suggestions either way?

Pics of the Callaway Speedster so you can see what my "inspiration" will be if I go the custom route:
